The first day of the first Test between India and South Africa was a great contest between bat and ball. Starting with the toss, things went in control for the hosts while Indian batters struggled to score runs. From skipper Rohit Sharma to Shubman Gill, top-order batters once again disappointed India in the first hour of the game.

After three back-to-back wickets, South Africa was looking at the top of the game. Star South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada dismissed Rohit Sharma, while debutant Nandre Burger removed Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal. However, after a collapse, India batters Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer tried to rescue the visitors.

Both batters added 68 runs for the fourth wicket but failed to convert starts in a big knock. Kohli, in his inning, scored 38 runs off 64 balls with the help of five boundaries. On the other hand, Iyer, in his inning, scored 31 runs off 50 balls with the help of three fours and a six. They were dismissed soon after the lunch break as Rabad continued to wreak havoc.

KL Rahul leads India to a comfortable position

Despite a poor batting performance from others, wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul outplayed the Proteas challenge. Rahul, who is making a comeback after a huge break, made a blistering half-century. He forged some valuable partnerships with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj before rain stopped the game.

Rahul, in his innings, scored an unbeaten 70 runs off 105 balls with the help of ten fours and two sixes. At the end of Day 1, India posted 208/8 in 59 overs. It’s worth noting that on Day 2, the game will start 30 minutes before official time. India will be keen to cross the 250-run mark, as it will make the game even for both teams.
