‘Beta kohli bane ki koshish mat kar, bohot pitega’ – Fans react to Naveen ul Haq silencing the Eden Gardens crowd

Given Virat Kohli’s prominence in international cricket and the fact that the infamous incident involving Naveen Ul Haq and he transpired in India during the ongoing IPL 2023, it is unlikely that fans in this country will allow Naveen to escape this. The Afghanistan international continues to be poked fun at by viewers despite the fact that the event happened about three weeks ago. On May 20 at the Eden Gardens, he was viciously made fun of by raucous “Kohli” chants.

LSG captain Krunal Pandya assigned the right-arm pacer to bowl the second over of the Kolkata Knight Riders innings in Kolkata. Jason Roy of the KKR missed making contact with his first delivery, which was shorter and outside the off, but he was successful with his next delivery, which was a length ball that was outside the off, which he smashed past mid-on to reach the boundary. As Roy smoked the third delivery through the sightscreen to hit an 81-meter maximum, followed it by scoring another boundary over backward point, he attacked Naveen once more.

The crowd at Eden Gardens erupted into loud “Kohli” chants throughout that entire event, especially that onslaught. It was perhaps louder than when the Hyderabad fans taunted LSG a few days prior or during Lucknow’s final home encounter earlier this week.

What gesture of Naveen Ul Haq has caught the eye of the cricket fans in India?

Naveen had the opportunity to repay the Eden Gardens fans, but not via his own bowling. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was removed by Yash Thakur in the 14th over when he attempted an expansive drive but instead lofted the slower ball into the sky. On his third attempt, backward point player Ravi Bishnoi was successful in gathering the ball.

Bishnoi’s successful attempt left Naveen, who dashed in from the sweeper cover in order to offer some cover, ecstatic. He then performed a Gautam Gambhir while facing the audience once more. After their victory over RCB last month, the LSG mentor, Gambhir had calmed the Chinnaswamy crowd, and Naveen did the same—but in reaction to those “Kohli” cries. During the 15th and 17th overs, Naveen also made a strong comeback, allowing just six and five runs, respectively, but was destroyed for 20 runs by Rinku Singh during his final over.
