‘Bhai Asia Cup mai bhi 12 bajaega’ – Fans react as Wanindu Hasaranga guides B-Love Kandy to outclass Dambulla Aura to claim LPL 2023 title

Wanindu Hasaranga and Co. emerged victorious in the Lanka Premier League 2023 as B-Love Kandy defeated Dambulla Aura by five wickets to win the prestigious title on August 20 at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Earlier, Kusal Mendis-led Aura had posted the target of 147/4 in the given 20 overs after opting to bat first. Later, while chasing, Kandy chased down the target with one ball to spare.

Meanwhile, B-Love Kandy skipper Wanindu Hasaranga, who also received the Player of the Tournament award for being the highest run scorer and top wicket-taker, expressed his happiness. Notably, the Sri Lankan cricketer hailed his team’s performances and said the team’s batters and bowlers took the onus and performed well despite losing the first two matches.

“We should thank our support staff and the foreign players. After the first two losses, we bounced back well in Kandy. We won three out of three in Kandy. We came here and played consistently. We started playing good cricket in Kandy. Our batters took responsibility and our bowlers did a good job,” Wanindu Hasaranga said during the post-match presentation.

In addition, the great all-rounder was very pleased with his individual performances. Moreover, Wanindu Hasaranga was thrilled after being the leading run-scorer of the tournament. Furthermore, the 26-year-old cricketer says that he never played under pressure and tried to give his best in every match.

“I am very happy because I contributed with the bat. I tried to do my best be it with the bat or with the ball. Our head coach asked me to bat higher. I was ready to do that. I also wanted to do something with the bat. No (pressure), whenever I play, I try to do my best whether I am captaining or not. This is more pleasing as I contributed with the bat,” he added further.
