Defending champions Gujarat Titans have almost made their way for the playoffs as they registered their eighth win of IPL 2023 by defeating Lucknow Super Giants by 56 runs in match number 51 of the season at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Batting first, GT posted a mammoth total of 227 runs for the loss of 2 wickets, powered by the fiery opening partnership between Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha. In reply, LSG could only score 171 runs losing 7 wickets in their 20 overs.

Saha and Gill gave a flying start to GT by adding 142 runs for the first wicket in 12.1 overs. Saha got out after smashing 81 runs off 43 balls, hitting 10 fours and four sixes. After that, Gill added 42 runs with the skipper Hardik Pandya, who got out after scoring 25 off 15 balls.

After Pandya’s wicket, Gill and David Miller (21 off 12) put up an unbeaten partnership of 43 runs for the third wicket. The 23-year-old remained unbeaten on 94 runs off 51 balls hitting two fours and seven sixes, while Avesh Khan and Mohsin Khan were the only wicket-takers for LSG.

LSG lost momentum after a great start

Chasing the winning total, LSG also got a great start as Kyle Mayers and Quinton de Kock put up an opening partnership of 88 runs in 8.2 overs. However, the visitors couldn’t continue the momentum as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals after that. Mayers got out after scoring 48 runs off 32 balls with seven fours and two sixes.

While De Kock, who was playing his first match of the season, took the innings further with wickets falling regularly from the other end. He got out after scoring 70 runs off 41 balls with seven fours and three sixes. Ayush Badoni also tried hard to take his team down the line by scoring 21 off 11 but couldn’t do it as LSG fell short of 56 runs off GT’s total. Mohit Sharma scalped 4 wickets by conceding 29 runs in his four overs. While, Mohammed Shami, Rashid Khan, and Noor Ahmad shared a wicket each.
