‘Bhai ki mehnat rang layi’ – Fans react as Rinku Singh gets his maiden India call for Asian Games 2023

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) star batter Rinku Singh has been included in India’s squad for the upcoming Asian Games that is scheduled to take place from September 23 to October 8 in Hangzhou, China. The Indian Cricket Board announced a 15-member and five standby players on Friday for the men’s cricket event at the Asian Games.

The T20 format will be used for the cricket competition, which will be contested at the Pingfeng Cricket Field at Zhejiang University of Technology. The Indian Board has declared a second-string Indian side, with Ruturaj Gaikwad serving as the team’s captain. India is already set to host the Men’s ODI World Cup in October.

Rinku Singh, selected after a stellar IPL 2023, topped KKR’s batting chart with 474 runs in 14 matches.

Along with Rinku, other talented players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Verma and Jitesh Sharma have also been included in India’s squad for the upcoming championship. Jaiswal recently impressed everyone by scoring a hundred in his debut Test match against West Indies. The 21-year-old scored a mammoth 171 runs in the first innings as India registered a victory by innings and 241 runs.

This is the third time that cricket will be played at the Asian Games. Bangladesh won the first edition in 2010, while Sri Lanka are the defending champion after becoming champions in 2014. Notably, Afghanistan ended as the runner-up on both occasions. Also this is the second time that the Indian Men’s Cricket team will play in a multi-sport event. Previously, India appread in the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur in a 50-over format. However, those matches were recorded as List A games.

Standby players: Yash Thakur, Sai Kishore, Venkatesh Iyer, Deepak Hooda, Sai Sudarsan.
