Former India seamer, Ajit Agarkar is on course to fill the position of head of the Indian Cricket Board’s senior selection committee, which has been open since the resignation of former fast bowler Chetan Sharma on February 17 as a result of his involvement in a sting operation.

Agarkar was called by the Indian Cricket Board representatives who pledged to boost the head selector’s existing yearly remuneration of Rs 1 crore. The only well-known applicant on the list is Agarkar, who made the decision to apply. On Thursday, he announced his resignation as the Delhi Capitals‘ assistant coach. It’s interesting to note that India’s Cricket Board did not choose Agarkar in 2020 when he applied for the position of selector.

The Indian Cricket Board, according to information acquired by The Indian Express, has changed the top selector’s yearly remuneration since former players who fit the requirements for the position declined to apply because their other sources of income, such as commentary and work as studio experts, paid higher.

Criteria to become Selector of India

Agarkar, a former captain of Mumbai, participated for India in 26 Tests, 191 ODIs, and four T20 matches. He was a member of the MS Dhoni-captained side that won the 2007 T20 World Cup. A candidate must have played at least 7 Test matches, 30 First Class matches, 10 One Day International matches, and 20 First Class matches in order to be considered for the position of selector.

Additionally, he or she needs to have given up playing at least five years ago. No one can serve on the Men’s Selection Committee if they have served on any Cricket Committee for a cumulative period of five years (as stipulated in the Indian Cricket Board’s Memorandum of Association and Rules and Regulations).

Chetan Sharma is said to have said that Indian athletes use injections to keep in shape during the investigation by Zee News. Additionally, he allegedly stated that Hardik Pandya, who has been leading India in T20Is ever since the T20 World Cup, visited his home.

Following Team India’s elimination from the T20 World Cup semifinals in November, India’s Cricket Board completely reorganised the selection panel, and Sharma was re-appointed in January of this year.
