‘Bhai pehle WTC to jita’ – Fans react over Shubman Gill’s bizarre comment, says he wants to be ‘Spiderman’ in World Cup final

Star Indian batter Shubman Gill has been tremendous with his bat in the past months and almost cemented his place in all formats of the game. The 23-year-old recently had a great outing in IPL 2023 for Gujarat Titans where he finished as a leading run-scorer of the season amassing 890 runs from 17 matches at an average of 59.33 with four fifties and three hundreds.

Notably, Gill has also made headlines as he has given his voice to the Indian Spider-Man character Pavitr Prabhakar in a newly released movie Spider-Man – Across the Spider-verse. He has been dubbed for the character in Hindi as well as the Punjabi Language. During the premiere of the film, Gill was asked about what would he do if he had the powers of Spider-Man. The cricketer came up with a hilarious reply saying that he would use his spider sense to catch balls on the cricket field and said that he would like to use his powers in the World Cup final.

‘I would have spider sense…’ – Gill

“I would want to be Spider-Man in the World Cup final because I would have spider sense and I would be able to catch balls,” Gill told Pinkvilla.

“If somebody asks me who’s Spider-Man, Tobey Maguire is the Spider-Man for me. End of debate. Not even half a percent of doubt. All of them are great but for me, Tobey Maguire is the best,” he further said.

Notably, the next edition of the ODI World Cup is set to be hosted by India later in the year 2023. Shubman Gill is likely to be one of India’s first-choice openers along with the skipper Rohit Sharma. India will be looking to become World Champions again in front of their home crowd just like in 2011 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.

However, Gill will be seen in cricketing action again in the upcoming World Test Championship Final against Australia which is scheduled to take place at the Oval, England from June 7 to June 11. The runners-up of the previous edition India will take on the Aussies for the second edition of the WTC final and will be looking to clinch the Test mace in their second attempt.
