‘Bhai tere chakkar me bhari nuksan ho gaya’ – Fans react as Mohammed Siraj explains why he threw ball back at Steve Smith during WTC 2023 final

Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj had an on-field banter with Australian batter Steve Smith during the first innings of the ongoing World Test Championship final at the Oval, England. In the 94th over of the innings, Siraj threw back the ball to Smith when he was batting on 111 runs. However, Smith didn’t react to it and kept on playing.

Siraj is being trolled by the fans for his aggressive behaviour. However, the 29-year-old gave an explanation for his action saying that he was just enjoying it as it was a long day. He made it clear that he had no plans to agitate Smith with his action.

“It’s nothing. It was just some enjoyment. If you enjoy – your mind will be relaxed. If you take too much pressure, it will affect your bowling. So, it’s nothing,” Siraj said at the end of Day 2.

“It was nothing. No plans of frustrating him. I was just enjoying my bowling. I was frustrated at that time,” he further added.

‘We tried bowling bouncers to Travis Head…’ – Siraj

However, Smith got out in the 99th over after scoring 121 runs off 268 balls hitting 19 boundaries. Australia finished their innings on 469 runs. Travis Head turned out to be the top scorer for the Aussies as he got out after scoring 163 runs off 174 balls hitting 25 fours and a six. Reflecting on his team’s bowling performance, Siraj talked about the short ball plans Indian pacers used against Head.

“We planned and came today that we will keep attacking with Travis Head with bouncers. We told ourselves that if he hits those bouncers, then no problem, but we will stick to our plan and we got our success. We tried bowling bouncers to Travis Head yesterday also, We created chances but they all fell in the gaps,” Siraj said

“We created a lot of chances. 4 or 5 chances fell in the gap in my bowling. If it had gone to hands, it would have been a different story. We tried yesterday also, but when the ball became softer, we had to bowl a stump line, bowl tight. It was a bad day in the office for us,” he added.
