‘Bhot maza aa ria hai’ – Fans react as CSK register thumping victory against KKR, move to the top of IPL 2023 table

Kolkata Knight Riders suffered their fourth consecutive loss in IPL 2023 as Chennai Super Kings defeated them by 49 runs in match number 33 of the season at the Eden Gardens. Batting first, CSK posted a mammoth total of 235 runs for the loss of 4 wickets, powered by the half-centuries by Devon Conway, Ajinkya Rahane, and Shivam Dube. In reply, KKR could only reach 186 runs losing 8 wickets in their 20 overs

CSK got a flying start as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway added 73 runs for the first wicket in 7.3 overs. Gaikwad got out after scoring 35 runs off 20 balls. A few overs later, Conway also lost his wicket after a well-made 56 off 40 balls hitting four fours and three sixes. After that, Rahane and Shivam Dube took charge of the innings and put up a firing partnership of 85 runs in just 32 balls.

Dube got out after scoring 50 runs off 21 balls hitting two fours and five sixes. While Rahane remained unbeaten by smashing 71 runs off just 29 balls hitting six four and five sixes. In the end, Ravindra Jadeja (18 off 8) put the finishing touches as CSK scored the highest total of the season. For KKR, Kulwant Khejroliya scalped 2, while Varun Chakravarthy and Suyash Sharma shared a wicket each.

KKR had a poor start chasing 236 runs

Chasing the winning total, KKR had a disastrous start as they lost the first 2 wickets at the score of just 1 run. After that, skipper Nitish Rana and Venkatesh Iyer tried to take the innings further by adding 45 runs for the third wicket. Iyer got out in the eighth over after scoring run-a-ball 20, while in the next over, Rana also lost his wicket after scoring 27 off 20.

After that, Rinku Singh and Jason Roy took charge of the innings by putting up a partnership of 65 runs for the fifth wicket. Roy got out after smashing 61 runs off 26 balls with five fours and five sixes. After that, KKR started losing wickets again at regular intervals. Rinku remained unbeaten on 53 off 33 balls but it wasn’t enough for his team to get down the line as they lost by a big margin. For CSK, Tushar Deshpande and Maheesh Theekshana picked up 2-2 wickets, while Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, Akash Singh, and Matheesha Pathirana shared a wicket each.
