‘Bolnede Dukh hua hai bichare ko’ – Fans react as Stuart Broad calls last Ashes series a ‘Void’

Published on

England is set to host Australia for the prestigious Test series the Ashes in June 2023. Ahead of the five-match Test series, the war of words has started between the teams. Meanwhile, star England pacer Stuart Broad has called Australia’s 4-0 victory in the 2021-22 Ashes a ‘Void’. He further claimed that the series does not count in his mind as Covid restrictions affected things to normalise.

Australia defeated England 4-0 at home, but Broad believes the visitors were unfairly at a disadvantage due to the rigorous coronavirus laws. Notably, Broad and his teammates spent the entire tour in a Covid-protected bubble and an extended quarantine. With Australia scheduled to visit England this year for the first Ashes since the “Covid series,” Broad’s remark has now set off the possibility of a heated debate.

Speaking with Daily Mail Broad said, Nothing was harsher than the last Ashes series. But in my mind, I don’t class that as a real Ashes. The definition of Ashes cricket is an elite sport with lots of passion and players at the top of their game. Nothing about that series was high-level performance because of the Covid restrictions. The training facilities, the travel, not being able to socialise. I’ve written it off as a void series.”

Stuart Broad backs England if Australia copies ‘Bazball’

Ben Stokes, the captain, and coach Brendan McCullum have renewed England’s Test team during the past year. With some aggressive batting and bowling style England has come up as one of the most difficult sides to beat. Meanwhile, reports suggest that the Australian team is also looking to counter the bazball technique of English players. Though, Australia is not ideally placed to follow England’s model of extreme aggression Board backs England to win the prestigious series.

He said It would be great for us if Australia try to take us on at our own game. If we can get them playing in a slightly different style they could make mistakes and that would be brilliant for us,” Broad said. “Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja are all guys who like to bat time and accumulate”, Broad continues.

“So if we can nibble away at them and just get them thinking, ‘Why are we not scoring quicker? Why are we not moving the game forward?’. I’d love Smith to dance down the track and sky one to mid-off early doors. That would be classic”, he further added.
