‘Champions aren’t made in a day’ – Fans react as Gulf Giants win inaugural ILT20 season, defeating Desert Vipers by 7 wickets

Gulf Giants defeated Desert Vipers by 7 wickets at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, February 12, in the final of the inaugural International League T20 (ILT20) final. West Indies all-rounder Carlos Braithwaite was awarded the Player of the Match for his brilliant performance with the ball as he took 3 wickets and just gave away 19 runs in his spell of four overs. Chris Lynn also scored a match-winning knock of unbeaten 72 runs from 50 balls.

The Giants won the toss and elected to bowl first. My purse once again faltered in the powerplay. They lost the top order in the powerplay and they were reduced to 25/3 in 4.3 overs. Vipers lost their skipper Colin Munro got out early and he was able to score just 6 runs when his team needed him to score the most.

Carlos Braithwaite shines in ILT20 Final

Wanindu Hasaranga and Sam Billings built up a partnership of 72 runs. But both of them get dismissed in successive words and their opponent makes a comeback in the final. The lower order contributed to the vipers and helped to post a total of 146 after the end of the first innings.

The Gulf Giants started the chase with positive intent. But Desert Vipers grabbed two quick wickets. However, Lynn scored a crucial knock and helped his side to the title. He built up a partnership with Gerhard Erasmus and Shimron Hetmeyer.

“Chuffed to be honest, big thanks to the staff. Really proud of the team and thanks for the opportunity to the management and the staff. I try to add my bowling as another string to my bow. Really enjoyed tonight. In that situation, needed to be calm. Qais was calm as well and that made it easier for me to effect the run-out. It is a fantastic tournament. Erasmus the Associate player of the year did not play all the games, so many international players sitting out shows the quality of the competition,” Braithwaite said in the post match presentation after recieving the Player of the Match award.
