‘Christmas ka taufa, Bangladesh ko saupa’- Twitter ecstatic as India whitewashes Bangladesh with a thrilling win on Xmas-day

Having faced a disappointing defeat against Bangladesh in the ODI, India went against the noisy neighbours in a 2-match Test series. The Men in Blue wanted to get the ODI loss past them and bounce back with a series in the Tests.

The first match went in India’s favour as the KL Rahul-led side came up with a comprehensive win against the Bangla Tigers. The second Test provided an opportunity for both to turn the series in their favour. The Sher-e-Bangla stadium however brought a different pitch than the first one.

The second match turned out to be entirely different to the first as the ball bounced and turned to make batting very tough. Bangladesh won the match and decided to bat first. They made 227 in the first innings which India surpassed easily on the back of Rishabh Pant’s 93 and Shreyas Iyer’s 87.

A 73 from Litton Das and 51 from Zakir Khan took Bangladesh to a 144-run lead against India. Although the target didn’t seem all that big, the pitch’s deteriorating condition meant that batters found it difficult to score runs.

India’s top order failed spectacularly in the fourth innings ad Shubman Gill (7), KL Rahul (2), CHeteshwar Pujara (6), Virat Kohli (1), and Rishabh Pant (9) all returned with a single-digit score.

It was Axar Patel who held the innings from one end on Day 3 and took India into Day 4. Shreyas Iyer showed his class with the bat and thwarted all challenges from Bangladesh bowlers and stopped the flow of wickets. Ravichandran Ashwin however was the hero of the fourth innings as he smashed a match-winning 42 off 62 and took India to an emphatic win against Bangla Tigers.

As a result of this win, India whitewashed Bangladesh by 2-0 under the captaincy of KL Rahul. Twitter, understandably was buzzing after India’s win after a disappointing showing in the ODI.
