Coach Ryan Cook believes semi-final route has become difficult after Netherlands’ loss against Australia in ODI World Cup 2023

The Netherlands have performed brilliantly in the ODI World Cup 2023. They have shocked the South Africans in the mega event. The Men in Orange has impressed fans with their performances. But after their hefty defeat against Australia, their head coach Ryan Cook believes their dream of reaching the semifinal at the ongoing World Cup is a bit difficult. They suffered a 309-run defeat that created a problem in their net run rate.

They are currently at the bottom of the table. Scott Edward’s side will next face Bangladesh on Friday. Then they have Afghanistan, and England and will play hosts India in their last game. The coach believes in his team and will back themselves in their last four games of the tournament. The bowling department looked completely helpless against the mighty Aussies.

Glenn Maxwell smacked all around the park and brought up the fastest century in the ODI World Cup history. He scored his ton in just 40 balls. This helped them post a massive total of 399/8. The bowlers looked completely helpless in front of Maxwell’s ruthless hitting.

We’re going to back ourselves against any team: Ryan Cook

Cook said after the match, “We’re going to back ourselves against any team that we come up against. We do have four more matches left and we’ll be aiming to try and get as many victories as we can. We said that at the start of the tournament when we got here that we’ll sort of be pushing for semi-finals. That looks a bit distant at the moment.”

He further added, “But, if we can get a couple of wins along the way from any of the teams that we come up against, we’ll be preparing well for that and we’re trying our best to make that happen. I think the guys will be very disappointed out there in the changing room. We talked a good game before the game, and we didn’t play a good game of cricket today.”
