‘Complete domination’- Twitter lauds Men in Blue for a 3-0 whitewash of New Zealand in ODI series

India and New Zealand went into the third of the last ODI with the hosts already winning the series. India won the toss and elected to bat first on a fairly small Holkar Stadium boundary. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill began with a flurry of shots and continued to play at a good pace.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma brought out his 30th century in 84 balls with the help of 9 fours and 6 sixes. Gill was also on Sharma’s heels as he completed his own century in the same over. The young batter made 112 in 78 balls with the help of 13 fours and 5 sixes.

With this, he also leveled the record for the most number of runs in a 3-match ODI series (360). Virat Kohli failed to score big (36) but Hardik Pandya who has been playing increasingly well these days controlled the lower-order batting with his 54 off 38. India posted a score of 385/9 in the first innings.

In response, Kiwis had a poor start as Finn Allen threw his wicket on the very second ball of the innings. Devon Conway however held the fort from one end and brought up a classy century (138 off 100) with the help of 12 fours and 8 sixes. Henry Nicholls also made a helpful 42 off 40. However, none of the other batters could thwart the Indian challenge as New Zealand faltered at 295 and lost the match by 90 runs.

Shardul Thakur who took 3 wickets as well as made 25 runs was awarded the Player of the Match whereas Shubman Gill was awarded the Player of the series.
