Trent Boult is available and expected to be picked for this year’s 50-over World Cup in India, therefore Adam Milne has been handed a central contract by New Zealand for the first time in five years despite refusing the offer of a national contract on Thursday.

Boult, who chose to end his contract last year, was left off of New Zealand’s most recent list of players under contract on Thursday. Instead, he signed a “casual playing agreement,” according to New Zealand Cricket. “He has indicated he’s available for the World Cup. He’s one of the best ODI bowlers in the world so barring injury, I think it’s highly likely he would be part of our squad,” head coach Gary Stead was quoted as saying to the reporters.

But, according to an Apex Cricket Council report, Boult and NZC wanted to reach an understanding before the player returned to the national team system. Boult is now anticipated to be a member of New Zealand’s lineup for the ODI World Cup in India, which would undoubtedly improve the Kiwis’ prospects in the massive competition.

A full-time contract was also extended by NZC to veteran bowler Adam Milne in response to his outstanding efforts in the most recent ODIs against Pakistan. Gary Stead, the head coach of New Zealand, cited right-arm pacer Milne’s outstanding recent results as proof that the right arm deserved the contract offer.

“Adam’s worked exceptionally hard and has shown good resilience over the past few years to be in a position to earn this contract offer. He’s always been a top-class bowler and we were impressed by his consistent contributions in the recent home summer and tour of Pakistan,” Stead asserted.

New Zealand Players offered central contracts for 2023-24: Finn Allen, Tom Blundell, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham, Adam Milne, Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, Blair Tickner, Neil Wagner, Kane Williamson, Will Young
