Suryakumar Yadav, the 2022 T20 Cricketer of the Year, achieved all-time highs in international cricket, including two T20I centuries and being the format’s top run-getter. Even as 2022 got underway, Surya’s form was improving as he hit a third T20I ton in a six-month period.

Many thought Surya’s slump would ease once the IPL started and he returned to the format that he cherishes the most, but after three innings of MI’s IPL 2023 season, Suryakumar is still far from being at his flowing best. 

After failing against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings in his first two IPL encounters with scores of 15 and 1, SKY attempted to perform his signature scoop shot against Delhi Capitals but was unsuccessful. Surya’s struck the ball straight onto the player at fine leg was the lone issue and went back to the pavilion disappointed.

Mumbai Indians head coach Mark Boucher spoke about his form after yesterday’s win and said he is not at all concerned. He said, “Surya’s form was never a concern. It takes only 10 balls to make a comeback in this format, you hit four fours and you are back in form. He got out on the first ball, but that happens, the situation was such. That could have been a four or a six too so this happens. The kind of batter Surya is, he is high on confidence and it’s only a matter of 10 balls; he’ll be back to his form.”
