The Ashes 2023
‘Ek send-off se itna kya hangama ho raha’ – Fans react as Nasser Hussain defends Ollie Robinson for his send off to Usman Khawaja during first Ashes Test
Former England cricketer Nasser Hussian shared his opinion on Ollie Robinson’s aggressive send-off to Usman Khawaja during the first Ashes 2023 Test in Birmingham. Hussain told the England pacer to shut out the outside noise and focus on his on-field performance for the rest of the series.
Robinson had a good outing in the first Test as he scalped 5 wickets including both innings. He took the big wicket of Usman Khawaja in the first innings when he was batting on 141 runs. Robinson produced a yorker that took out off-stump and ended the innings of the Australian batter. This led to an emotional celebration by the pacer as he yelled, “F**k off you f***ng prick,” to Khawaja as the latter was heading back to the pavilion.
The 29-year-old was also warned by the umpire for his aggressive behaviour. However, he also defended his actions by saying that the likes of Ricky Ponting and others had gone the same during the previous Ashes series.
“When you’re in the heat of the moment and you have the passion of the Ashes that can happen. I think we’ve all seen Ricky Ponting and other Aussies do the same to us, and just because the boot’s on the other foot it’s not received well,” Robinson said at the post-match press conference.
I’ve sort of enjoyed the to-ing and fro-ing from Ricky: Nasser Hussain
Robinson has also faced criticisms from former cricketers like Ponting and Matthew Hayden. Now, Hussain said that Robinson is not the only cricketer to give a send-off in Ashes and many cricketers have done this in the past. However, he also added that Robinson made one mistake by bringing Ponting’s name into the equation.
“He’s not the first cricketer to give someone a send-off in an Ashes battle and there’s a few Aussies that have given send-offs over the years,” Hussain was quoted as saying by India Today.
“I’ve sort of enjoyed the to-ing and fro-ing from Ricky. We had Ricky working with us at Sky (Sky Sports) and the WhatsApp group was going ballistic that night… of all the Australians Ollie Robinson could mention, he mentioned Ricky,” he further added.
Here is how fans reacted
Oh, I see Nasser Hussain is trying to justify Ollie Robinson's racist tweets by bringing up some irrelevant nonsense about send-offs. Classic deflection tactic, but we're not falling for it mate.

It's still early days in the Ashes series.
But even so, Robinson as well a few Brit commentators would be well-advised to remember the old adage:

Exactly. Ponting and Clarke are talking as if they were saints of cricket. The world will never forget the ruthless games they played.
