‘Ek tarfa haraya hai’ – Fans react to MI Cape Town’s triumph over Joburg Super Kings in Match 4 of SA20

In the fourth match of SA20, Joberg Super Kings (JSK) clashed with MI Cape Town (MICT) at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on January 13. The game was a one-sided affair as MICT won the game by 98 runs against JSK. This marks MICT’s first victory in the tournament’s second game, securing their initial win in two matches. With this triumph, MICT has climbed to the top spot on the points table. Conversely, JSK are yet to secure a win in the two games they have played in the league so far.

In the middle, Ryan Rickleton and Rassie Van Der Dussen displayed brilliance. The opening pair achieved a remarkable feat by posting 200 runs for the first wicket. Van Der Dussen’s performance was sensational as he reached a century, while Ryan narrowly missed securing his second hundreds of the season. Rassie scored an impressive 104 runs in 50 balls, featuring 9 fours and 6 sixes. Meanwhile, Rickleton contributed with a score of 98 (49), including 6 fours and 8 sixes.

JSK witnessed a lacklustre performance from all their bowlers, with none able to contain the MICT batting lineup effectively. Nandre Burger provided a minor consolation by securing 2 wickets. However, MICT dominated the innings, accumulating a massive total of 243 runs in their allotted 50 overs. The JSK batting lineup faced a swift collapse during the chase, quickly dwindling to 29/3. The failure of any batsman to produce a substantial contribution in the challenging run chase proved costly for JSK, leading to their defeat.

MICT registered a 98 runs victory

George Linde exhibited an exceptional performance with the new ball, claiming the crucial wickets of Faf Du Plessis and Lizaad Williams. Simultaneously, Reeza Hendricks faced a run-out, while Kagiso Rabada dismissed Herrmann. Among the JSK batters, Du Plooy emerged as the standout performer, appearing to be the sole player capable of turning the game in JSK’s favour. Du Plooy amassed 48 runs in 24 balls during his innings at the no. 4 position, featuring 6 fours and 2 sixes.

Later in the innings, Romario Shepherd made an effort to secure a victory for JSK, but his contribution arrived a tad too late. With the exception of Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran, who had an off day with the ball, the remaining bowlers delivered economical spells while also taking wickets. This ensured that there was no rescue for JSK, as they struggled in every department of the game.
