‘Ek teer se do shikaar’ – Fans react as AB de Villiers picks Virat Kohli and Babar Azam as leading run-getters in Asia Cup 2023

The Asia Cup 2023 has been underway since August 30 with the great victory of Babar Azam’s side over Nepal in the opening match, whereas Sri Lanka defeated the Bangladesh side during the second match of the Asia Cup. Notably, the Men in Blue are locking horns against Pakistan in the third match of the Asia Cup. In addition, a plethora of experts and former cricketers have started making predictions and selecting their favourite players for the Asia Cup. Notably, former South African cricketer AB de Villiers is one of them.

The legendary cricketer picked India’s stalwart Virat Kohli and Pakistan skipper Babar Azam as his favourites owing to their magnificent form in the 50-over format. Notably, the former right-handed batter wants to see these two names as the leading run scorers of the 2023 Asia Cup. However, the wicket-keeper batsman would be surprisingly pleased to have some other batters as the leading run-scorer.

My favorites for the Asia Cup definitely Virat Kohli and Babar Azam: AB de Villiers

“My favourites for Asia Cup definitely Virat and Babar. I haven’t seen a lot of the Sri Lankans or other players in incredible form. That’s where Virat and Babar are different. When they score runs, they score 130s-150s. They really knuckle down. I think we would see their names up there and I would be pleasantly surprised to see someone else up there,” AB de Villiers said on his YouTube channel.

Meanwhile, the former RCB batter feels Pakistan’s left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi doesn’t look in great form these days. The legendary cricketer also claims that the star pacer may be saving his energy for the big matches or maybe finding his rhythm. Moreover, the destructive batsman feels Afridi is a huge player for Babar Azam’s side.

“Not quite the same rhythm we have seen from Shaheen Afridi in the past. I don’t know if he’s a little bit undercooked or if there’s a tiny little injury. Maybe he is just saving his energy for when it matters most. He may be trying to find a little bit of rhythm knowing there are much bigger games coming up. He’s a huge player for Pakistan,” he added further.
