South Africa vs India 2023-2024
‘Elgar ko chot lagi aur stumps kar diya’ – Fans react after South Africa dominate day two of Centurion Test vs India
KL Rahul and Dean Elgar dominated the second day’s play during the First test match between South Africa and India. Bad light stopped play with the South African score reading 256/5 with the home team leading by 11 runs.
It was an entertaining day as both teams gave their best with the bat and ball. Dean Elgar scored his 14th Test ton to negate the dangerous Indian bowling on yet another overcast day.
Rohit Sharma will be unhappy with the way his team bowled under helpful conditions for the bowlers. Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna flattered to deceive with Thakur in particular bowling four no-balls.
Dean Elgar’s century gives South Africa a slight advantage –
South African veteran batter Dean Elgar showed an uncharacteristic display with the bat by showing his attacking instincts. The 36-year-old is playing his final series for his home team and made it memorable.
After losing Aiden Markram early, the left-handed batter decided to go onto the offensive. Mohammed Siraj gave India the early breakthrough when he dismissed Aiden Markram. It was then the Bumrah show as he dismissed Tony De Zorzi and Keegan Petersen.
Debutant batter David Bedingham and opener Dean Elgar then added 131 runs for the 4th wicket. The stand came in just 29.5 overs as the boundaries came at regular intervals. The century was achieved when Elgar pulled Thakur for a four and let out a huge roar of delight.
29-year-old David Bedingham also brought his maiden Test half-century with a single. Just when the stand was looking dangerous, Mohammed Siraj swung the ball in and dismissed Bedingham for 56.
Prasidh Krishna got his first test wicket when he got the wicket of Kyle Verreynne. There was a huge roar of appeal from the Indian players as the umpire didn’t give the batter out. India sent the decision upstairs and the 3rd umpire found a huge spike in the bat to give the visitors their 5th wicket. With Temba Bavuma injured, Marco Jansen came out to bat and saw out the rest of the day.
Starting the day at 208/8, Indian wicketkeeper and batter KL Rahul played a special innings. The 31-year-old smashed Gerald Coetzee for a huge six to bring his century and celebrated in style. Debutant bowler Nandre Burger ended the Indian innings dismissing Rahul for 101 to end India’s innings at 245.
