Can England still focus on securing spot in coveted Champions Trophy 2025 despite loss against Australia? Check out here all possibilities:
The England cricket team suffered a great loss against five-time world champions Australia in their seventh game of the ODI World Cup 2023. Notably, the defending champions are currently in the last spot after six losses and one win in the ongoing marquee event, which makes them doubtful for the Champions Trophy 2025 qualification.
Speaking about their campaign, England lost to New Zealand in their opening game of the tournament. However, they defeated Bangladesh by 137 runs in their second clash. Following that, the Afghanistan side beat them by 69 runs in their third clash. In addition, they suffered a humiliating loss to South Africa in their fourth clash.
Moreover, Sri Lanka also beat them by eight wickets in their fifth clash. However, the home team recorded a 100-run win over the defending champions despite a narrow score on the board in their sixth clash before getting the loss over Pat Cummins and Co., which makes them sit at the 10th spot in the points table and makes their qualification very tough for the Champions Trophy 2025.
There are two ways in which England can qualify for the Champions Trophy 2025
The England cricket team now needs to win their upcoming two clashes to finish in the 8th spot. Notably, the defending champions will have to beat the Netherlands on November 8 as well as Pakistan on November 11. Meanwhile, that will be a tough contest, as Pakistan also needed to get the win by a big margin to get a spot in the semi-final.
Meanwhile, the defending champions will have to depend on Team India and Sri Lanka’s wins as well. Jos Buttler and Co. will be expecting the hosts should beat the Netherlands in their last clash so that they can sit in the last spot. On the other hand, they also want the Sri Lanka team to beat Bangladesh in the eighth clash of the tournament so that Bangladesh will come in 9th. However, that will allow them to place themselves in the eighth spot and will give them an opportunity to qualify for the Champions Trophy 2025.
