‘Kya record bana hai gjb’ – Fans react as England create unique record of all batters scoring in double digits for first time in ODI World Cup history

The ODI World Cup 2023 campaign started with the clash between England and New Zealand on October 5 at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. Speaking about the match here, it was New Zealand stand-in skipper Tom Lathom who won the toss and invited defending champion England to bat first. Notably, after being sent to bat first, Jos Buttler and Co. posted 282/9 in the given 50 overs.

Interestingly, all the members of the squad have piled up runs in the double digits, which has happened for the first time in ODI World Cup history. Notably, none of the members can achieve the mark of three figures, whereas no one departs under 10 runs, which makes this marquee event more thrilling on the opening match of the ODI World Cup 2023.

Notably, the English team didn’t have a great start as star opener Jonny Bairstow struck out 33 runs on 35 balls, while left-handed star batter David Malan could only pile in 14 runs. Following them, star batter Joe Root hammered 77 runs, which remains the highest score by any English batter. Notably, Sunrises Hyderabad star Harry Brook scored 25 runs, and CSK all-rounder Moeen Ali racked up 11 runs.

Ben Stokes has got a slight sort of niggle in his hip: Jos Buttler

Moreover, star skipper Jos Buttler scored 43 runs, whereas great all-rounder Liam Livingstone hammered 20 runs. Following them, Sam Curran and Chris Woakes get 14 and 11 runs, respectively. Later, towards the end, Adil Rashid and Mark Wood remain unbeaten with scores of 15 and 13 runs, respectively, to post a decent total of 282/9 runs.

Meanwhile, the English side must have missed star all-rounder Ben Stokes in the game today. Notably, skipper Jos Buttler confirmed that Stokes sustained injuries ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023. “He’s got a slight sort of niggle in his hip, fingers crossed it will be good news for us. We’ll make the right call. If he’s not fit to play he’s not fit to play and if he is we can make that decision,” Jos Buttler said as quoted by Sky Sports.
