‘Even if am not playing, they keep…’ – Prithvi Shaw opens up on team India comeback ahead of T20Is vs NZ
India will square off against New Zealand in the first T20I of the three-match series slated on January 27, Friday and it would be a series to watch out for as the Kiwis might come to all guns blazing after losing the ODI series 3-0 against Rohit Sharma and his men. Prithvi Shaw, who was recalled after 18 months for the series, opened up on his comeback and the family who supported him right throughout.
The young Indian opener claimed that his family and friends supported him right throughout, even before he started his stint with the Indian team. Further, Shaw claimed that he was scared of the announcement of the squad as he ended up receiving too many calls and explained that he was afraid of what had happened.
“It’s been long, I was in part of this team but I am happy to be back. Actually the team came a little bit later at night at around 10:30 or whatever. And I saw lots of calls and messages, you know, the phone was getting hanged. I was like ‘what happened? what exactly happened? I was scared as well ‘yaar kya hogya?’. Then I saw that I got selected for the T20Is,” Shaw said in the video that was released by the Indian cricket board.

It’s been a tough journey for me: Prithvi Shaw
Further, Shaw claimed that the past 18 months were tough for him to handle and notably, the batter took to Instagram to express his displeasure time and time again for being sidelined from the team setup. Hardik Pandya, the Indian captain, said on Thursday ahead of the game that the right-handed batter would not be brought in for the first T20I and it will be Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill who would be opening the innings.
“It’s been a tough journey for me in these 18 months but the people who have supported me throughout my career not from since I am playing for India but before that as well they were there. I really like about it that they are standing beside me, whatever happens. I am really happy, even if I am not playing, they keep supporting me, my friends, my family, my dad, my coaches. I am really lucky to have those kind of people in my life,” Shaw added.
