‘Everyone goes through a lean patch, but…’ – James Anderson on continuing to play Test cricket for England
England have shown some great fighting spirit in the fourth Test match in order to keep their chances alive for winning the series and reclaiming the Ashes. But unfortunately, Rain was the spoilsport in the fourth Test match which forced the Test match into a draw and ultimately led to Australia retaining the Ashes.
But apart from some scintillating performances from the England player, there were some players whose underperformance was the major reason which led to England lagging so much in the first two Test matches and eventually ending up on the losing side. Now, the senior member of the England team, James Anderson, has now come up with a statement while writing for his column in Daily Telegraph.
Star pacer Anderson admits lean patch in worst Ashes series, vows to give his Best for team
Anderson wrote that the star pacer was not happy with his performance in the series and he accepted that he is going through a lean match in the most anticipated series. The 40-year-old also said that he still pretty much has what it takes to play at the highest level and he will also be continuing to give his best for the team.
“I have certainly not had the returns I would have liked in this series. Everyone goes through a lean patch, but you just do not want it to be in the most high-profile series we play. I keep talking to the coach and captain. They want me around, so as long as I am still hungry, and want to put in the work, I will keep trying to give my best for the team. That is exactly where I am at the minute. I love playing Test cricket as much as I ever have and this is my favourite period as an England cricketer,” Anderson wrote in his column.
The ace England bowler has managed to take just four wickets at an average a very poor average of 76.75 in the series so far, which also includes one wicket at his home ground Old Trafford. In terms of performance, it is probably the worst Ashes series for the legendary fast bowler.
