Fabio Paratici resigns as managing director of Tottenham Hotspur after losing appeal against 30-month worldwide ban

The general director of football at Tottenham Hotspur, Fabio Paratici, resigned on Friday after being denied a chance to challenge a 30-month global suspension. The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) suspended Paratici in January after his former team Juventus was found guilty of false accounting. 

At first, the embargo only applied to his native country, allowing him to continue working for Spurs, where he joined in June 2021. However, in response to a request from the Italian federation, FIFA last month broadened the ban’s application to include all countries. 

When Scott Munn was chosen earlier this month to replace Paratici as Tottenham’s new chief football officer, Paratici had already resigned from his position in anticipation of the appeal. Italy’s highest sports court dismissed Paratici’s appeal on Thursday.

“Whilst there continues to be a dispute as to the scope and extent of the ban, the current worldwide ban prevents Fabio from fulfilling his duties as our managing director of football,” Tottenham said in a statement.

“Fabio has consequently taken the decision to resign from his position at the club with immediate effect to focus on his legal position in respect of the FIGC and FIFA rulings.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy said the club had wanted to allow for “due process to be followed” before sorting out Paratici’s future. He also mentioned that they started to restructure their football operations several months ago and also announced their new chief football officer Scott Munn who will be taking care of all the departments.

“This has been a stressful time for Fabio and his family. We wanted to ensure that we allowed for due process to be followed. Fabio is a man who lives and breathes football – we wish him well. As outlined in our year-end results, we started several months ago to restructure our football operations and last week announced the appointment of Scott Munn as chief football officer to head up all the departments.”
