Fan rips apart Stuart Broad as he tries teach what ‘True Sportsmanship’ is

During the fifth match of Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup 2023 between Pakistan Women and Rwanda Women in Potchefstroom yesterday, Pakistan’s player Zaib-un-Nisa was in the limelight throughout the day for running out Rwanda batter Shakila Niyomuhoza at the non-striker’s end. The completely legal but debatable dismissal happened on the third last delivery of the innings when Zaib-un-Nisa rightly punished Niyomuhoza for trying to gain an unlawful advantage.

Reacting to the incident, the England pacer, Stuart Broad shared a tweet where he said that he will never do such dismissals in context to the sportsmanship in Cricket. Stuart Broad wrote: “Never. I run too far to bowl the ball to even consider it. I like getting people out properly.” Meanwhile, Broad last played for England in a Test against South Africa at the Oval on 8-12 September 2022. He has played 336 international matches and has taken 809 wickets so far.

Stuard Broad’s infamous incident during the 2013 Ashes

The speedster made a controversy during the Ashes series in 2013. The incident took place during the first Test match. England and Australia locked horns in Trent bridge. In the second innings, Stuart Broad was batting on 37 runs. Ashton Agar was bowling and he produced an edge. Brad Haddin grabbed that ball behind the wickets. But, the umpire wasn’t satisfied and declared him as not out.

Broad refused to walk out of the field even after replay showed the clear edge. For such an action, the English fast bowler was criticized. But, the British fans were supporting their player. However, Broad said: “It was an odd one. There was no particular noise because of the noise of Haddin’s gloves. It’s a bit silly when people say it was nicked to slip because actually it was edged to the keeper’s gloves and flew off the gloves to slip.”

Stuart Broad did not play the Test series against Pakistan as he ruled out himself from the whole away Test series. England fast bowler and his partner were expecting a child in mid-November. Broad put his family first and that’s why he was unavailable for selection for the trip.
