‘Finally Someone said the Truth’ – Fans react as Kris Srikkanth feels Tilak Varma should not make his debut in Asia Cup

The Indian Cricket Board announced the squad for the Asia Cup on August 21. Notably, the roaster has marked the surprising inclusion of Mumbai Indians batter Tilak Varma, owing to his magnificent performance in the five-match T20I series against the West Indies. Moreover, after his inclusion, a plethora of experts affirmed that the 20-year-old deserves a place in the Asia Cup, whereas few cricket pundits opposed the same. Meanwhile, former India cricketer Kris Srikkanth feels Tilak Varma should not make his debut in the Asia Cup.

The former right-handed batter said one should not give the debut to a young batter in marquee events owing to his lack of experience in ODIs. Moreover, the former opening batter lauded Tilak Varma and calls him promising owing to his stellar stints in the IPL as well as the recently concluded West Indies series, where the middle order batter hammered 173 runs from just 5 T20Is, including an impressive half-century.

Do not give Tilak Varma a debut in the Asia Cup: Kris Srikkanth

“Do not give Tilak Varma a debut in a big tournament, play him in the ODI series before that. Tilak Varma is promising. Asia Cup is a big opportunity for him. We saw some real promise not only in terms of performances but also temperament during the T20I series against West Indies. This will give him exposure,” Kris Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.

Notably, the 1983 World Cup winning members hail Tilak Varma by calling him a fantastic and brilliant player, but at the same time, the 63-year-old cricketer wants Varma to play a few bilateral series before making it to the World Cup squad, as the southpaw needed to get groomed to play in the big tournaments.

“Tilak has fantastic potential, a brilliant player — but he has to play a couple of one-day series before putting him in the WC squad. We need to groom him properly,” he added further.
