‘Gosh that is tragic’ – Fans react as former India cricketer Aakash Chopra duped of Rs 33 lakh by businessman

Published on

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra lodged a complaint, and police filed a FIR under IPC Section 406 (criminal breach of trust) against shoe businessman Kamlesh Parikh and his son Dhruv Parikh on Saturday in a fraud case. Notably, Kamlesh was previously the manager of the Hyderabad Cricket Association, and Aakash Chopra has known him well for so many years.

The well-renowed cricket commentator alleged that the Parikh’s tricked him into making an investment in a sports shoe company. Aakash Chopra reveals that he had given 57.8 lakh rupees to the Parikh family for the business with the agreement that he would return the full amount with a 20% profit in 30 days.

In addition, Chopra has given the money to Dhruv, who is the son of Hyderabad Cricket Association Manager Kamlesh, for the sports business. However, the former India opener further alleges that Parikh has only returned him 24.5 lakh rupees instead of his whole amount, and still 33 lakhs are pending. The cricket pundit says that he had words with the Parikh family and sent several notices as well, but they failed to return him and tricked with him.

A year later, only Rs 24.5 lakh has been returned: Aakash Chopra

“We entered into a formally notarised agreement which stipulated that Dhruv was to return the money within 30 days with a 20% profit, and post-dated cheques were provided for recovery. However, a year later, only Rs 24.5 lakh has been returned, and two issued cheques were dishonored,” the FIR, citing Aakash Chopra, said.

“I spoke to Dhruv’s father, Kamlesh, and he promised to honour the agreement on his son’s behalf but failed to do so. Legal notices were served, but both father and son ceased communication, making the recovery of the principal,” Aakash Chopra said.

The advocate reveals that they had filed a complaint regarding this case, and further examination will take place on the Aakash Chopra case, and the accused will be called for further investigation.

SHO Arvind Kumar said, “The documents and evidence provided by the complainant are being examined. Further action will be taken following investigation. The accused will also be called for questioning.”
