Former Indian cricketer picks Kane Williamson’s replacement in the Indian T20 League 2023
All 10 teams are set and fully prepared for the upcoming mini-auction for the 2023 edition of the Indian T20 League season, which is scheduled to take place on December 23 at Kochi. A total of 405 cricketers will go under the hammer this time around, which include 273 Indians and 132 overseas players.
Every franchise has a different need, and they all want to look at every possibility during the auctions. The Hyderabad franchise will look for one player to serve as their team’s captain throughout the upcoming season. Notably, the 2016 Indian T20 League champions cut ties with Kane Williamson after the Black Caps star struggled in the prior season of the lucrative competition.
The former New Zealand skipper was retained by the Hyderabad franchise for INR 14 crore. The Hyderabad-based franchise kept three players after the IPL 2022 auction, the right-handed batter being one of them. He was nevertheless discharged from the Orange Army in 2022 as a result of his subpar performance.
They might be thinking of him going forward as a leader- Irfan Pathan
What the Sunrisers can do now and who they will trust to lead their team are the greater questions. Although the situation will become clearer following the auctions, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has asserted that Hyderabad franchise will choose one name.
The all-rounder asserted that the former Indian T20 League winners may want to sign opening batsman Mayank Agarwal, who the Punjab franchise have released. Irfan said that Mayank could be the best option for SRH because of his expertise as a team captain in the lucrative league and his aggressive opening style.
“Hyderabad franchise will go after Mayank Agarwal because they need a kind of aggressive opener as well. They don’t have Kane Williamson right now, who led them for many years as an experienced player and who used to open the innings as well. Mayank Agarwal is the kind of guy who has led a side, who plays quite freely as well, very fearless, and very selfless. They might be thinking of him going forward as a leader as well,” Pathan said while speaking on the Star Sports show Game Plan.
