The Ashes 2023
‘From one Goat to another’ – Fans react as Virat Kohli hails England Test skipper Ben Stokes for fighting knock in 2nd Ashes Test.
Star Indian batter Virat Kohli heaped praise on the England Test skipper Ben Stokes for a terrific knock against Australia in the second Test of the Ashes 2023 at Lord’s on Monday. The 32-year-old scored a magnificent century while chasing a target of 371 runs when other English batters were struggling to score big.
For his knock, Stokes has been getting a lot of appreciation from all over the cricketing fraternity. However, he couldn’t take his team down the line as they fell short of 43 runs from Australia’s total. Talking about his innings, Virat Kohli took to social media to acknowledge Stokes for his innings by calling him a ‘he most competitive bloke.’
“I wasn’t joking about calling Ben Stokes the most competitive bloke I’ve played against. Innings of the highest quality but Australia is too good at the moment,” Kohli wrote on his Twitter.
Talking about the match, England were struggling while chasing 371 runs as they kept losing wicket at regular intervals. Ben Duckett got out scoring 83 runs off 112 hitting nine boundaries. After that, Stoke went on to score 155 runs off 214 balls with nine fours and nine sixes. At last, England were bowled out for 327 runs, and Australia took a 2-0 lead in a five-match series.
‘When is it justified that the umpires have called over?’ – Stokes on Jonny Bairstow’s controversial dismissal
After the match, Stokes also commented on Jonny Bairstow’s controversial dismissal on Day 5 of the Test match. Bairstow got out after scoring just 10 runs in a most bizarre when he stepped out of the crease after ducking on a bouncer by Cameron Green and Australia’s wicketkeeper Alex Carey under-armed the ball onto the stumps.
“When is it justified that the umpires have called over? Is the onfield umpires making movement, is that enough to call over? I’m not sure. Jonny was in his crease then out of his crease. I am not disputing the fact it is out because it is out, Stokes told BBC.
“If the shoe was on the other foot I would have put more pressure on the umpires and asked whether they had called over and had a deep think about the whole spirit of the game and would I want to do something like that. For Australia, it was a match-winning moment. Would I want to win a game in that manner? The answer for me is no,” he further added.
Against the same bowling line up Babar Azam scored 196 that too on Day 5 and saved his team from defeat. King for a reason. pic.twitter.com/WUbgkg5ih2

Loved the way Ben Stokes carried England today. Witnessed you playing innings like Edgbaston, Centurion, Perth and would genuinely want you to come back into that version soon
