‘Future of Indian team’ – Fans react as Tilak Varma earns his ODI debut against Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2023

India’s star batter Tilak Varma received his ODI debut cap during the Super Fours of the Asia Cup 2023, where Team India is currently playing against Bangladesh on September 15 at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Notably, the ongoing match is set to be a practice match for the Men in Blue, as they have already reached the final, whereas Bangladesh is out of the tournament after suffering back-to-back losses against Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the Super Fours.

Meanwhile, speaking about the ongoing match, it was skipper Rohit Sharma who won the toss and invited Bangladesh to field first. Notably, the 36-year-old skipper has made five changes to the squad. India’s star pacers, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, and Prasidh Krishna, got the nod over Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mohammad Siraj. In addition, India’s stalwarts Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya are also set to miss the match, while debutant Tilak Varma and star middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav make their way into the squad.

Notably, the 20-year-old Tilak Varma has produced sensational performances during the IPL 203 while playing for the Mumbai Indians. His performance made him debut in the T20I series against the West Indies earlier this year. Tilak Varma has produced magnificent knocks against the West Indies, which make his way into the Asia Cup squad, but he misses out on the ODI World Cup squad.

No shortage of changes surprises as India ring in five changes: Rohit Sharma

“Pacers who bend their back in the daytime have also got movement and there have been assistance for the spinners. Got to be brave and play your natural game. We got to give game time to some other guys who haven’t played. As expected, no shortage of changes surprises as India ring in five changes,” Rohit Sharma said at toss.

Here’s India’s Playing XI – Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, KL Rahul (Wicketkeeper), Ishan Kishan, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Prasidh Krishna.
