‘There isn’t even one batter in this entire batting unit….’ – Gautam Gambhir’s dig on England’s batting unit after their collapse against Sri Lanka

Defending champions England are on the verge of getting knocked out of the tournament after their poor performances in the ODI World Cup 2023. Notably, Jos Buttler and Co. registered an 8-wicket loss against Sri Lanka in the recent clash of the marquee event. The English team is currently at the bottom of the points table as they have just won one out of the five games they have played so far in the ongoing tournament.

Following their back-to-back losses, a plethora of former cricketers and experts have criticized them for their awful performances in the marquee event. Notably, former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir is one of them who lashed out on them for their terrible form. The well-renowed cricket commentator felt England’s body language had been totally distressed since the start of the tournament. In addition, the former India opener reiterated that there is no single batsman who can turn things around for them in the ODI World Cup 2023.

“Combination of the two. England’s body language from the start was as though they were extremely disinterested. You cannot bat in just one way. There isn’t even one batter in this entire batting unit who wants to grind. There is a difference between being able to do it and wanting to do it,” Gautam Gambhir said on Star Sports.

It seemed like everyone was playing for their reputation and not for the country: Gautam Gambhir

The 2011 ODI World Cup-winning star affirms that the Jos Buttler-led side is playing for their own individual reputation instead of the country. Moreover, the 42-year-old legend called the English side the selfish side.

“A lot of players say that this is their style and it’s up to you whether you select them or not. It means you are extremely selfish. Selfishness does not have any role in a team sport. It seemed like everyone was playing for their reputation and not for the country,” he added further.
