‘Gazab bejjati hain’- Fans react as Shane Bond picks his favourite captain of ODI World Cup 2023

World Cup 2023 has reached midway all the teams have played five matches each. Pakistan have been in trouble as they are yet to win a match since their loss against India. They have lost three matches in a row and are currently placed fifth in the table. Babar Azam’s captaincy has come under scrutiny after their loss against Afghanistan in Chennai. Former players and experts have lashed out at the Pakistan skipper and believe that Babar is way too traditional and cannot think out of the box.

Former Kiwi pacer Shane Bond while speaking with ESPNCricinfo, has picked a controversial skipper while choosing better captains in the ODI World Cup 2023. The pacer has picked the Netherlands skipper Scott Edwards over Babar Azam. The former Mumbai Indians coach believes that the Men in Orange captain Edwards is better than the 29-year-old captain. This pick by the pacer has created a buzz over social media.

Bond picked Jos Buttler over Edwards and as well over Hashmatullah Shahidi, Kusal Mendis, and Shakib Al Hasan. When he was asked to pick between Buttler and Rohit Sharma, he picked the latter, and while picking between Rohit and Bavuma he picked the 36-year-old opener. He picked Tom Latham over the Indian skipper and even over Kane Williamson saying that the latter is not playing so he picked Latham.

Shane Bond joined Rajasthan Royals

Bond has been with Mumbai Indians since 2015 and he left the five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions in 2023. He then joined Rajasthan Royals after the departure of former Sri Lanka pacer Lasith Malinga. He after joining stated, “I’m thrilled to join the Royals. It’s a forward-thinking team set on success, and I’m excited to be part of their vision. The bowling group has a fantastic blend of youth and experience, and it’ll be fantastic to collaborate with them.”

Bond has played in 18 Tests and 82 ODIs, with an impressive record of 234 wickets during his international cricket career. His experience and coaching ability will have a positive impact on the Royal’s bowling department.
