‘Ghayal sher aur bhi khatarnak hota hai’ – Fans react to Michael Hussey’s ‘MS Dhoni’s knee has not been 100%’ remark in ongoing IPL 2023

Recently, MS Dhoni has often dropped down the batting order in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), and he has been extremely outspoken about it. In one of the post-game interviews, he said that he had instructed the players to avoid losing their wickets too soon and to avoid forcing him to run in order to make everyone’s job simpler. Dhoni has been dealing with a knee injury since the beginning of the season, yet the veteran is seen playing the entire game.

Dhoni bats down the order as he puts the finishing touches because he doesn’t want to risk his problematic knee by sprinting between the wickets, according to batting coach Mike Hussey. The former India skipper has been sidelined by a knee injury during the whole IPL, but Dhoni has maintained wickets in every game and batted at No. 8 while also providing useful cameos at the end of innings.

He’s trying to delay coming in as long as possible: Michael Hussey

“I think it’s pretty clear that he likes to come in the last few overs, that’s his plan. It’s been well-documented that his knee has not been 100 percent and he’s trying to get through the matches as best as he can throughout the tournament,” Hussey was quoted as saying in a pre-match press conference ahead of CSK’s final league game against Delhi Capitals.

The Chennai home crowd has been quite supportive of the World Cup-winning skipper this year. Dhoni completed a lap of honour around the MA Chidambaram Stadium after CSK’s loss to KKR, which was their final home game. He had an ice pack strapped around his knee. Dhoni was observed stumbling and finding it hard to take singles and doubles during last week’s encounter against DC.

“So, I think, he doesn’t want to come in the 10th, 11th, or 12th over and have to run those quick doubles all the time, that’s going to put pressure on the knee. He’s trying to delay coming in as long as possible and having that impact late in the innings. He shows a lot of backing and faith in the likes of (Shivam) Dube, (Ravindra) Jadeja, (Ajinkya) Rahane and (Ambati) Rayudu to do the job before he comes in,” the left-hand batter asserted.
