‘Gill-Rohit show at Guwahati’ – Fans applaud Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill after their 143-run opening partnership against Sri Lanka

India are locking horns with Sri Lanka in the first ODI against Sri Lanka at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati for the three-match ODI series. The second and third ODI of the series will be played at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, and Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvanthapuram on January 12 and January 15, 2022, respectively.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl first. For India, the seniors Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul came back to the squad after being rested for the T20I series against the Asian champions while, on the other side for Islanders, left-arm seamer Dilshan Madhushan made his international debut.

For India, Rohit and Shubman Gill came to open the innings and both conquered the field with their attacking shots. The duo built up a marvelous partnership of 143 runs. Both the openers were playing like they are playing a T20 game, smashing boundaries at regular intervals.

The duo raced away to 78 runs in the powerplay. Gill scored 70 runs off 60 balls at a strike rate above 116, which included 11 boundaries, while the Mumbai franchise skipper scored 83 runs off 67 balls with nine fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 123.88.

The Gujarat franchise opener got leg-before to Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shana at the score of 70 runs, while, on the other side, Rohit got back to the pavilion after scoring 83 runs in his comeback innings.
