Grand Theft Auto trilogy triples engagement for Netflix in 2023

Netflix in recent years have started pushing into the gaming market. While the company say they are merely providing something more to its subscribers, they do boast a decent library.

Over the last few years, the company has been investing in game studio acquisition and in-house game development. Netflix also earlier reported that they have over 50 titles planned. Despite that, the company was still failing to generate more engagement.

GTA Trilogy to the rescue

Last year, Netflix released the mobile version of the Grand Theft Auto trilogy: Definitive Edition to its subscribers. As per reports, the declining engagement saw improvement with the addition of these games.

“Despite games still being small, and certainly not yet material relative to our film and series business, we’re pleased with this progress,” the company said in its statement.

It’s true that video games are become more mainstream in the recent days. However, since Netflix was already known for its web streaming service, minor titles were not able to help much.

The addition of one of the most popular video game series was sure to get people’s attention. The release was also very well received, as the mobile version looked better optimized than its PC counterpart.

The library is growing

Netflix now has many other popular indie gaming titles like Hades, Dead Cells, Braid, Death’s Door and Katana Zero. The company is also creating original games based on multiple popular web series.

The GTA Trilogy, however, still remains the most successful launch to date as per Netflix. “Some customers had signed up for Netflix just to play the Grand Theft Auto games,” the company added.

With mobile devices getting stronger GPUs, there are many more popular titles being ported to mobile devices. Even GTA V was running on Android through an emulator. Who knows what Netflix might bring next?
