‘Great gesture, they deserve this’ – Fans react as Jay Shah announces cash prize for curators and groundsmen at Asia Cup 2023

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have announced prize money of USD 50,000 for the curators and groundsmen at Colombo and Kandy. Notably, the wonderful step announcement was made by Asian Cricket Council President Jay Shah on September 17. The Asia Cup 2023 journey started on August 30 and ended on September 17 in Colombo. Meanwhile, a total of 13 matches were played in the Asia Cup 2023, with nine being played in Sri Lanka and the rest in Pakistan.

Notably, this was a great move by the Asian Cricket Council, as the continuous rain and poor weather in Sri Lanka have halted the play many times. Following the same, the onus was on the ground staff and curators, who gave their every effort to make sure the fans witnessed some action despite heavy rain at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo as well as the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.

Notably, as the tournament started, heavy rain pushed India and Pakistan to share one point during the group stage. Following the same, Team India registered a 10-wicket win against Nepal in the rain-curtailed match. Speaking of the Super Fours, the Men in Blue finish their match against Pakistan on reserve day. Following the same incident, the match against Sri Lanka also got delayed in the Super Fours, and the same incident occurred during the final game.

Meanwhile, Team India emerged victorious in the Asia Cup 2023 after defeating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final match at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on September 17. In addition, Rohit Sharma and Co. were easily able to clinch the title for the eighth time.
