‘Great work Wasim Bhai’ – Fans congratulate Bangladesh after their maiden under-19 Asia Cup title win

Bangladesh Under-19 team won their first-ever Asia Cup title after beating UAE in the final by 195 runs on Sunday. Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer played a key role in the win as he is the batting coach for the Bangladeshi side.

Both sides had played some outstanding cricket to make it to the final game. The Bangladeshi side had beaten India in the semi-final game. It was a complete team performance as many had expected an India vs Pakistan finale.

UAE meanwhile shocked the apple cart to beat the fancied Pakistani side to win the other semi-finals. As the two teams reached the finals it was confirmed that Asian Cricket is set to receive a new winner in the Under-19 level.

Bangladesh shows their might against UAE to win the Asia Cup title

UAE won the toss and chose to bowl first and erred right away. Wasim Jaffer and his batting acumen seemed to be passed on as Bangladesh scored 282/8 from their 50 overs. Wicket-keeper Ashiqur Rahman top scored with 129 runs from 149 balls with 12 fours and a six.

Chowdhary Mohammad Rizwan batted well to score 60 runs from 71 balls. Ariful Islam then gave the innings a finishing touch with 50 runs off 40 balls with 6 fours. Skipper Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby scored 21 off just D11 balls to help his side post 282.

Chasing 283 to win none of the UAE batters seemed up for the challenge. Dhruv Parasher was the top scorer with unbeaten 25 runs while opener Akshat Rai scored 11 runs. Those were the only two double-figure scores for UAE as the Bangladeshi bowlers ran riot. Maruf Mridha and Rohanat picked 3 wickets each while Hossain Emmon and PR Jibon picked two wickets apiece.

After the win, Wasim Jaffer who is the batting coach took to Twitter and wrote “First ever Under-19 Asia Cup title for Bangladesh. We saw the dream, and the boys fulfilled it today. So happy and proud of this lot. Well played boys. Champions of Asia”

The 45-year-old had earlier spoken about the entire Mumbai Indian captaincy saga. While speaking to ESPN CRICINFO, Jaffer said “I’m surprised that MI has moved from Rohit Sharma so early. It happened so quickly, I’m also a little surprised. When they did the trade, it was probably communicated to Hardik that he was going to become the captain. But whether it was communicated to Rohit, I don’t know,”
