Dushmantha Chameera, the Sri Lankan pacer, returns to the IPL with the Kolkata Knight Riders, replacing Gus Atkinson in the squad. Chameera was purchased by KKR for INR 50 lakhs. In addition, Gus Atkinson has withdrawn from the 2024 Indian Premier League due to his commitment towards the June 2024 T20I World Cup. After Mark Wood, he is the second player to pull out of the IPL. Prior to the competition, the IPL management declared Chameera as a replacement.

The release said, “Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have named Dushmantha Chameera as a replacement for England pacer Gus Atkinson for the upcoming edition of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Chameera will join KKR at a reserve price of INR 50 Lakh.”

In the 2018, 2021 and 2022 seasons, Chameera played for the Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Lucknow Super Giants. Moreover, he took nine wickets in 12 games throughout the 2022 campaign. For the Sri Lankan seamer, the 2022 season was not good. In addition, he will be looking to perform well for the KKR team as the T20I World Cup is approaching.

Dushmantha Chameera to return from injury

The fact that Dushmantha Chameera, a player from Sri Lanka, has joined the KKR team ahead of the IPL season would make them delighted. But he was hurt in the last T20I series against Afghanistan, thus Binura Fernando took his position. The manager of Sri Lanka’s squad claims that although Chameera is feeling better presently, the extent of his injury is yet unknown. They are anticipating a favourable result while they wait for the specialist’s confirmation. Furthermore, Chameera is anticipated to be well in time for the IPL to begin.

Sri Lanka team manager Mahinda Halangoda said, “He’s feeling better now, but we won’t know for sure the exact nature of his injury until we hear back from the specialist.”
