‘Haar ka rang hara’ – Fans react as Royal Challengers Bangalore all set to play in green jersey against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2023
When they take on Rajasthan Royals in the “Green Game” of this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday, April 23 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will demonstrate their dedication to green efforts. Since the launch of The Green Game in 2011, RCB has devoted one of their home games to the ‘Go Green’ campaigns in order to raise awareness of the need for a cleaner and greener environment.
For the Sunday game, RCB players will wear recycled green jerseys. These jerseys were created from recyclable materials gathered around the stadium. RCB’s season-opening game alone produced 9047.6 kg of garbage at the stadium due to the consumption of 19,488 water bottles.
According to estimations, a stadium produces 8 tonnes of dry garbage, food waste, and other recyclable trash every match. The use of waste segregation techniques has made it possible to collect and separate dry, food, and non-recyclable junk, then totally process them to create recycled items like shirts and other products.
RCB is the world’s first carbon-neutral cricket team: Rajesh Menon
Working closely with Good Era, the Go Green Initiative’s implementation partner, RCB created the first-ever Green Army, a group dedicated to sustainability that they heavily rely on to maintain the stadium’s grounds.
“RCB is the world’s first carbon-neutral cricket team and the foremost cricket franchise in the world rallying behind a people’s driven movement for greener planet. ‘Go Green’ is not just an initiative for us but an aspiring movement to seek behavioural changes, contributing to solving various challenges related to climate change. It transcends beyond cricket and connects fans at a much deeper level, an engagement with a purpose,” Rajesh Menon, VP and Head of Royal Challengers Bangalore was qutoted as saying in a press release.
RCB will also restore two lakes in South Bengaluru, totaling 44 acres, as part of this year’s objective, and the Green School certification program will be introduced to almost 200 institutions.
