Babar Azam and Co. once again showed magnificent performance to secure a 59-run win against Afghanistan to sweep the three-match ODI series by 3-0 on August 26. Notably, with this win, they clinched the top position in the ODI rankings ahead of the Asia Cup. Earlier, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam won the toss and invited Afghanistan to field first.
Notably, after opting to bat, the Men in Green posted 268/8 owing to the great partnership between Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam. Later, while chasing, Shahidi’s side had a poor start, which made them lose the last ODI. Notably, the great bowler Mujeeb-Ur-Rahman tried hard as he hammered 64 runs from just 37 balls to reach the target but lost his wicket, and the Afghanistan team could only rack up 209 runs before bundling out.
Afghanistan have one of the best spin-bowling attacks in the world: Babar Azam
Meanwhile, following the great win, skipper Babar Azam has expressed his happiness and credited this win to his teammates for clinching the top spot in ODIs. Notably, the stylish right-handed batter also lauded the Afghanistan squad for having the best spin bowling attack, which will help them prepare ahead of the Asia Cup. In addition, the Lahore-born batter also revealed his plans to take an inning deep with wicketkeeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan during the last ODI. Moreover, the 28-year-old skipper wants to carry this winning momentum into the upcoming Asia Cup.
“Yeah, now, we are the number one ranked ODI side. Credits go to the boys, all of them have been doing the hard yards. Absolutely, Afghanistan have one of the best spin-bowling attacks in the world. This series should help us in the Asia Cup. The conditions were not easy for the batting in the first innings. Rizwan and myself tried to rebuild with a cautious approach and decided to take the innings deep. We had a good bench strengths and a great bunch of players. We tried different combinations. In a couple of days, we have our first match in the Asia Cup. So need to take this momentum to it,” Babar Azam said during post match presentation.
