After the terrific contest in the ODI World Cup 2023 Final, both the finalists India as well as Australia clashed in the T20 format this time. The first T20I match of the series, saw India registering a thumping win against Australia by two wickets at Visakhapatnam on November 23. The number one ranked T20I side, India certainly showed why they are ranked so highly in this format, especially with a B-string side.

Earlier in the game, it was India skipper Suryakumar Yadav who won the toss and elected to bowl first. The new-look India bowling side started off well as they got the wicket of Matthew Short (13) inside the batting powerplay. But after that, Josh Inglis and Steven Smith stitched on a brilliant partnership of 130 for the second wicket.

Both the batters smashed the inexperienced India bowling lineup to all parts of the ground. In the process, Inglis registered his maiden T20 century off just 47 deliveries. Smith too played an essential innings of 52 runs. At one stage Aussies were eyeing for a score in range of 250 but it was courtesy of brilliant death over bowling from Mukesh Kumar which restricted the total to 208 runs.

India chased down the total with six wickets to spare

In pursuit of the mammoth target of 209 runs, the Indian team did not have the best of the starts. In the first over the innings, India lost Ruturaj Gaikwad (0) to a miscommunication between both the openers. Soon after that India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal (21) who was looking to play aggressively. But as we saw in the first innings, here also for India there was a brilliant partnership between Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan.

The duo stitched a brilliant partnership of 112 runs off just 60 deliveries. Ishan played a brilliant innings of 58 runs whereas Suryakumar played a breath-taking innings of 80 runs off just 42 deliveries. In the process, Ishan smashed five maximums whereas the skipper hit four sixes. However, the game in the end was filled with run-outs as there were two of them. But eventually, it was cool and calm Rinku Singh who finished off in style with a six. With this win, India also took a 1-0 lead in the series.
