‘He can do it’ – Legendary West Indies batter Brain Lara picks young Indian batter to break his highest Test score of 400*
Former West Indies batter Brain Lara has been phenomenal throughout his Test career. The legendary batter holds hundreds of records before his name in the longest format of the game. One of his most iconic records came 19 years ago when he hammered an unbeaten 400 runs in Test cricket.
This is the highest score in international cricket to date, and not a single person has been able to cross it. However, Lara, in a recent conversation, picked star Indian batter Shubman Gill, who can break his record. It’s worth noting that Lara also holds the record for most runs in first-class cricket, which is unbeaten by 501 runs.
“Shubman Gill can break both my records. Gill is the most talented batter in this new generation. He will rule cricket in the coming years. I believe he will go on to break many big records. He can do it. If Gill plays county cricket, then he can break my 501*. In Test cricket, he can surely go past 400, Lara told Anandabazar Patrika.
“He will score big.” Brain Lara continues his predictions
Further speaking about Shubman Gill, Lara said that Gill will score big and rule cricket in the upcoming years. “Shubman will score big; mark my words. Gill didn’t score a century (in the World Cup), but look at the knocks he has already played. He has centuries in all formats, has smashed a double hundred in ODIs, and has also played many match-winnings in the IPL. I’m sure he will win many tournaments in the future, says Lara.
It’s worth noting that after a three-week break, Shubman Gill is set to get back in action with a T20I series against South Africa. The ODI number 1 batter is set to cement his place in the T20I team too. His absence has given Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad a lot of chances to perform, and both have claimed it too. Gill will need to mark his presence on the most important tour too.
