‘He is still the best player in the world to watch’- Legendary former skipper’s heart-warming statement on Virat Kohli grabs social media attention

Former India skipper Virat Kohli displayed one more masterclass while chasing at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium against the five times champion Mumbai in their opening fixture of the 16th edition of the Indian T20 League on Sunday, April 2.

He scored an unbeaten knock of 82 runs off 49 balls with six four and five sixes which helped his side to victory by eight wickets. Former England captain Michael Vaughan praised Kohli in a tweet, calling him the “best in the world,” but the former Bangalore captain’s favorite cricketer responded to the former in a suitable manner.

While chasing a target of 172 runs, the Bangalore franchise openers Kohli and Du Plessis thrashed the Mumbai bowlers, which have the likes of Jofra Archer, Jason Behrendorff, Green, and Piyush Chawla. Both of them put together a partnership of 148 runs in the 14.5 overs before the 38-year-old was dismissed after playing a brilliant knock of 73 runs from 43 balls with five fours and six sixes. Kohli scored an unbeaten knock of 82 runs from 49 balls, which included six fours and five sixes.

Following the game, Vaughan praised both Kohli and the Bangalore franchise, leaving him in total admiration. “At his best he is still the best player in the world to watch .. @imVkohli makes batting look so easy .. @RCBTweets look dangerous !!! #ITL2023,” he tweeted on his social media handle. On Monday, April 3, former South Africa opener, Herschelle Gibbs replied to the 48-year-old a fitting tweet saying, “Even when he’s not at his best, there’s still nobody better currently than Virat.”

During the opening day of India’s match, a video of Kohli from his 2008 Under-19 World Cup performance was shown. Each participant has to give a brief introduction and mention their favorite cricketer. In the U-19 World Cup video, Kohli said that Gibbs was his favourite cricketer, while later in his cricketing career admitting that he idolized Sachin Tendulkar.
