‘He made it known in the dressing room’ – Australian batting coach on Steve Smith’s outburst after sweep shot disaster in Delhi Test

India is currently hosting the four-match Test series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The hosts, who swept the first two tests of the series, are currently second in the Test Championship standings and have already retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. They will be seeking to guarantee a position in the championship game by winning the third Test in Indore.

There were a lot of expectations from Steven Smith when he arrived in India this year for the four-match Test series against India. He hasn’t lived upto the expectations till now and also hasn’t scored a fifty till now in the first two Tests. He has given away his wickets cheaply on all four occasions and has failed to take his side through to a decent total.

The Australian batting collapse was started by the dismissal of right handed batter Steve Smith on the final ball of the 19th over. The former Australian captain attempted to sweep a Ravichandran Ashwin delivery but got stuck in front of the stumps. When the former captain entered the dressing room, he wasn’t in the best of moods and the way he got out caused him to erupt.

What did the Australian batting coach talk about Steven Smith?

Australian team batting coach Michael Di Venuto spoke about how Smith loves these conditions but has failed to make a big impact till now. He said, “I haven’t spoken to him yet about that, and where he’s at. But he’s excited about these conditions, he loves these conditions. It will be a frustrating thing for him at the moment that he hasn’t had the impact he would have liked.”

He further spoke about how Smith reacted when he got out on that delivery and how he was when he entered the dressing room. “He was certainly disappointed when he got out, and he made it known in the dressing room that it was a poor shot. I think most people would have heard that, so they should have had a fair idea of what not to do.”
