‘He said he wanted to review it again’- Former Indian Opener Aakash Chopra bashes Ravichandran Ashwin for taking double review in Tamil Nadu Premier League
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra questioned Ravichandran Ashwin’s strange double review in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2023 versus Ba11sy Trichy, saying it was beyond his understanding why Ashwin did it. The 36-year-old Indian spinner is presently playing for the Dindigul Dragons in the TNPL.
Aakash Chopra stated that Ashwin’s judgment was beyond his comprehension and backed with the third umpire, claiming that the official followed protocol to the letter.
Ashwin Anna’s small matter has brought TNPL to the world map: Aakash Chopra
Speaking on his youtube channel the former Indian opener said, “Ashwin Anna’s small matter has brought TNPL to the world map. He was bowling very well, had picked up a wicket, and there was an appeal for another wicket where the umpire gave it out.”
“Ashwin and everyone were happy but the batter asked for a review. The third umpire was very good. He followed the protocol, checked all angles, and figured out that the ball had not reached the bat when the spike came because of the bat hitting the ground. Well done, he umpired very well and said it was not out.”
The 45-year-old batter believed that the double review was unnecessary, and he also believes that the double review was unnecessary, and that match authorities would state soon that this option was not available.
Chopra further added, “Ashwin said he wanted to review it again. He reviewed a review and it happened as well. It is beyond my understanding. I feel when the TNPL officials look back, they will say that this option was not available.
“You can’t do it. There are multiple reasons for that – you need to take the review within 15 seconds. The review was taken and the third umpire told, with all due diligence, what his thinking was. Now you are reviewing the third umpire’s thinking and asking him only to be the judge.”
Few days back in an interview Ashwin disclosed his displeasure of not playing in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final. He picked up two for his side and led them winning the match in TNPL.
