‘Heartbroken’ Danielle Wyatt shares heartwarming tweet after going unsold in Women’s T20 League Auction 2023

England top order batter, Danielle Wyatt was left heartbroken after going unsold in the first-ever auction of the Women’s T20 league. The auction took the place on February 13 in Mumbai. A total of 87 players were sold in the auction by all five franchises for a total amount of INR 59.05 crore.

Wyatt appeared in the auction with a base price of INR 50 lakh, but none of the franchises raised a bid for her. The 31-year-old was devastated by this and shared a Tweet stating that she had dreamt of playing in the Women’s T20 League.

She still congratulated all the players that have been picked up by the franchises and also mentioned that India is a great place to play cricket.

“Dreamt of playing in the WPL. Heartbroken (emoji). Congrats to all who got picked up. India is a wonderful place to play cricket,” Wyatt stated in her Tweet.

Wyatt is the second leading run-scorer for England in the Women’s T20I with 2276 in 140 matches with an average of 21.27 striking at 124.50. She has also appeared in 102 ODI matches for England scoring 1776 with an average of 23.7.

Smriti Mandhana becomes the most expensive player in the Women’s T20 League

Out of 87 players sold in the auction, 30 players were from overseas. Indian batter Smriti Mandhana turned out to be the most expensive player in the first Women’s T20 league after she was bought by the Bangalore franchise for the amount of INR 3.40 crore. Meanwhile, Natalie Sciver from England and Ashleigh Gardner from Australia became joint most expensive overseas players after both were picked up for INR 3.20 crore by Mumbai Franchise and Gujarat Franchise respectively.

Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was picked up by Mumbai for the amount of INR 1.80 crore. Ellyse Perry from Australia, Sophie Devine from New Zealand, and Heather from England were picked by Bangalore for the respected amounts of INR 1.70 crore, INR 50 lakh, and INR 40 lakh.

India’s U-19 20-20 World Cup-winning captain Shafali Verma and India’s star in the recent 20-20 World Cup match against Pakistan Jemimah Rodrigues were bought for INR 2 crore and INR2.20 crore respectively by Delhi franchise who also picked up Australian wicketkeeper Meg Lanning for INR 1.10 crore.
