Heath Streak’s wife pens emotional message after demise of legendary Zimbabwean cricketer

Cricket World was left devastated after former Zimbabwe skipper Heath Streak passed away on Sunday. Heath Streak, who was 49 when he passed away, had been suffering from Liver cancer for a while. Just a few days earlier, former Zimbabwe fast bowler Henry Olonga had broken the news of the death of his former teammate. This was later refuted by Streak himself as Olonga later took down the post.

Just as the news made headlines, Nadine Streak, wife of the former Zimbabwe captain, took to social media. Nadine penned down one final farewell message to her husband in what was a moving message.

Taking to Facebook, Nadine Streak wrote, “In the early hours of this morning, Sunday the 3rd of September 2023, the greatest love of my life and the father of my beautiful children, was carried to be with the Angels from his home where he wished to spend his last days surrounded by his family and closest loved ones”

Nadine ended the emotional post as he penned down her heartfelt thoughts which read, “He was covered in love and peace and did not walk off the Park alone. Our souls are joined for eternity Streaky. Till I hold you again.”

Heath Streak played nearly 12 years for Zimbabwe, a career which saw him play 65 test matches. With the bat, Steak scored 1990 runs with an average of 22.35 with one century and 11 half-centuries. Streak captured 216 test wickets with a best of 6/73 on seven occasions where he took five wickets in an innings.

In the ODI format, Streak played 189 games picking 239 wickets. His best figures were 5/39, which was his only five-wicket haul in the ODI format. Heath Streak also picked 499 wickets in First-Class cricket and 385 wickets in List A Cricket.

Streak played his last game for Zimbabwe in 2005 at the age of 31. His last test appearance was against India in 2005, where he picked his career-best 6/73. His last ODI game was the same year against New Zealand where he picked 1 wicket and scored 18 with the bat.

After his retirement, he dabbled in coaching and coached his national side for a while. Streak also was the bowling coach of the IPL side Kolkata Knight Riders. In 2021, Streak was banned from the game for eight years by Cricket’s apex body.
