Here’s Australia’s biggest worry moving into the Test Championship Final against India at the Oval

Published on

The Australian players will be eager to put their past troubles at The Oval behind them as they start their preparations for the Test Championship final against India. Australia has one of the poorest records at The Oval, where the final between the top two Test sides will be played from June 7 to 11, in the more than 140 years of Test cricket in England.

Australia, which hosted the first Test match in England at The Oval in 1880, has won just seven of the 38 Tests it has played there. With an overall success percentage of 18.42 percent, this is the lowest of any team in England.

Only twice in the previous 50 years have Australia triumphed at The Oval. On the other side, they had 17 victories from 29 games at The Lord’s, for a success percentage of 43.59 percent, beating out South Africa’s 33.33 percent and the 39.72 percent of the hosts England from 141 games at the same location. At Headingley, Trent Bridge, Old Trafford, and Edgbaston, respectively, Australia’s success rate is 34.62 percent, 30.43 percent, 29.03 percent, and 26.67 percent.

India do not boast a great record at the Oval either

On the other hand, India hasn’t done very well there either, winning just twice, drawing seven times, and losing five times. But the 157-run victory over England here in 2021, which was its first triumph in a Test match at the stadium in forty years, will give the Rohit Sharma-led team confidence.

Australia will have their first comprehensive training session in the UK on Thursday at Beckenham, which is around 20 km from the center of London, according to cricket.com.au. Since both teams will only have access to The Oval’s facilities two days before the game, Pat Cummins and his team will train there over the weekend.

Additionally, Beckenham is recognised for having a batter-friendly track, whereas The Oval is probably going to favour the pacers. With their 2-1 away loss to India earlier this year, Australia concluded the 2021–23 Test Championship cycle in the first place. They have lost four straight series against the Men in Blue and haven’t defeated them either at home or on the road in eight years.
