The shocks don’t seem to end in ODI World Cup 2023 as the Netherlands sprung a huge surprise on Tuesday. On Sunday, it was Afghanistan who had created a surprise for the fans by beating England by 69 runs in New Delhi.

The 15th game of the ODI World Cup 2023 saw Dharamshala host the game between South Africa and the Netherlands. South Africa had won both their games previously beating Sri Lanka and Australia. The Dutch on the other hand had lost their first two games to Pakistan and New Zealand.

Temba Bavuma won the toss and chose to bowl first. The match was reduced to 43 overs per side after the start of the game was delayed due to rain. Gerald Coetzee replaced Shamsi, while Logan Van Beek came in for Rory Klein.

South Africans stunned by spirited Dutch team

Vikramjit Singh and Max O Dowd began slowly as the pair added 22 runs for the first wicket in 6.1 overs. Singh was the first to go when he was caught by Klassen off Rabada for 2. O Dowd was out in the next over caught by De Kock off Marco Jansen.

Regular strikes from the South African bowlers had the Dutch reeling at 112/6 in the 27th over. It was skipper Scott Edwards who started the fightback for his side with 78 runs not out off 69 balls with 10 fours and a six.

Former South African player Roelof Van Der Merwe scored 29 runs off 19 balls with 3 fours and a six. Aryan Dutt then swung his bat to stay 23 not out from 9 balls with 3 sixes to his name as the Dutch reached 245/8 from their 43 overs.

Chasing 246 to win, South Africa also began slowly before losing De Kock for 20. Temba Bavuma was the next to go when he was out for 16. The Dutch spin duo of Van Der Merwe and Ackermann had done the trick early. Van Meekeren got into the act as he bowled Markram for 1 while Van Der Merwe got Van Der Dussen caught for 4.

Heinrich Klassen scored 28 before he was caught at fine leg by Singh off Van Beek. Gerald Coetzee and David Miller then added 36 runs for the 7th wicket before Van Beek got David Miller out for 43. The Dutch won the game by 38 runs to spark massive celebrations.
